…On July 8, 1776, the Liberty Bell, a symbol of American independence, was rung in Philadelphia to mark the public reading of the Declaration of Independence. The iconic bell is cracked, but the cause of the crack remains a mystery.

..St. Christopher’s participated in the Griffin Neighborhood Association Picnic on June 28th. Big thanks to Sharon Parker for organizing our participation and to all the volunteers who helped at our table!


… Join us for Pie Baking on June 12th at 9am at the church! One of our hallmark attractions at the Blueberry Bash is our homemade pies. Recipe and training provided at our baking sessions. No experience necessary. It’s a fun assembly line style experience! 

… Fake emails supposedly from Fr. James…again. Phishing attacksare on the rise! Don’t be fooled. Watch for emails that ask you to be discreet, send money, or create a sense of urgency. These are trademarks of scammers. Many times these emails aren’t actually ‘hacks’ – they have not commandeered a person’s actually email account, instead they have created an account and posed as another person. Check the email address to be be certain. Or pick up the phone and call Fr. James or the office. See here for more info on how to spot and react to phishing emails and text messages. 

Be A Kid Again Day: Kids have fun just being in the world! Be a Kid Again Day, celebrated on July 8, is the perfect opportunity to embrace your inner childlike spirit and enjoy life from the unique perspective of being a kid again.

Be a Kid Again Day is full of all kinds of opportunities to do things that might normally be frowned upon for adults to do. Take advantage of them and embrace your inner child by participating in an activity from childhood. For example, you might:
  • Swing on a swing.
  • Take a turn down the slide.
  • Spin on a merry-go-round.
  • Jump barefoot through a creek.
  • Lie in the grass and watch the clouds go by, imagining what their shapes make.
  • Watch an ant hill.
  • Jump through a sprinkler.

If the activities above don’t strike your fancy, you could watch a movie about being a kid again.
Need to get inspired? Try out one of these films that are in the spirit of Be a Kid Again Day:
  • Opposite Day (2009) 
  • Big (1988). 
  • 13 Going on 30 (2004)
You can also celebrate the day by donating to a charity that supports children like “A Kid Again”.  A Kid Again is a non-profit organization in the USA that provides fun-filled adventures for families of kids with life-threatening illnesses. It allows the children, their parents, and siblings to simply let loose and enjoy some fun. This is especially important for kids who have had to grow up too soon due to illness, surgeries, hospital visits, and treatments.

Pie makers and helpers needed!
As Blueberry Bash approaches, it is time to bake pies! We are looking for new and experienced pie makers to help. We have planned the following group pie-making sessions at church:

  • Saturday, July 12, 9 am-1 pm, all ages group pie-making session
  • Sunday, July 27, children’s pie making during the 10:30 am service

No experience necessary- all ages and skill levels welcome! We have lots of roles if you’re new to pie baking or want to help in other ways. If you’re available to help or curious to learn more, please reach out to Laura Johnson at (703) 424-8664 or lawigand@gmail.com.
