The BC met on December 8th at 7pm. Here is a summary of actions…

– Front sidewalk revisions:
Project on hold until weather clears and warms – likely in the spring. Donations from congregation are at approximately 50% of our goal. 

– HVAC/mini-split heat pump:
Reviewed recommendations and quotes of all three bids. BC agreed that mini-split would likely not get the results we want for climate control. BC will be proposing a campaign to replace main HVAC systems to the congregation and gauge whether congregation would commit to raising funds necessary and how long that might take. Proposal to come at or before Annual Meeting on Jan. 25th. 

– Playground Improvements. We are waiting till the weather is appropriate to pour cement and install new playground structure. The structure and installation have both been donated. ( We are grateful!!!)

– Newly formed Facility & Grounds Team:
It was clarified that this team reports to the Jr. Warden, who in turn reports to the BC. 

– Budget & Finances.
— Report received of 2.7% Cost of Living Adjustment for clergy set by Diocesan Convention for 2026.
— BC Approved 2.7% Cost of Living Adjustment for other paid staff for 2026 Budget.
— Report received of Diocesan (& Synod) Assessment set at 14.5% of Net Disposable Income of congregation by Diocesan Convention. This is our congregational Tithe to the Diocese and Synod. The rate has not changed since 2019.
— Clergy pay scale advisory received. St. Christopher’s is now near the top of the lowest congregational pay scale grade in the diocese, “Grade E”. If/when StC moves to “Grade D” (a sign of growth), mandated clergy salary will also increase. By 2026 standards the increase would be about $10k per year. The change in grade would be the result of increased ASA (average Sunday attendance) and/or Annual Budget and/or number of Pledges in the congregation.
— Budget report: Our monthly income/expenditures are stable & predictable, yet we remain dependent on large, one-time (unpredictable) gifts to maintain a balanced annual budget. Increased efforts in Stewardship ministry, congregational education about giving, and emphasis on pledging are recommended. We are grateful for several one-time gifts in 2025 that have allowed us to maintain a surplus in our bank account and for all the regular gifts that are the foundation of our financial health and viability.
