This Week at St. Christopher’s…

…On September 18, 1931, RCA Victor demonstrated the first long-playing record (LP). The LP revolutionized the music industry by allowing more songs to be recorded on a single disc.

…Music forever changed. With the LP came a significant change in music. Before this, a grandchild’s favorite songs might be the same as her grandparents’. With the invention of the LP, record producers pushed musicians to create more and new music. Eventually music became generational – tied to certain eras and no longer having the same longevity that spanned multiple generations. For church music, that has meant that most (but not all) of contemporary worship music goes “stale” in 3-4 years and is considered obsolete in ten. What worship songs from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s do you still hear? Which one’s do you not hear?

…The history of our Church Picnic. Did you know this is the first time our church picnic is at Kirsop Landing? Audrey Kirsop is a long time member and former Sr. Warden at St. Christopher’s. Prior to this year Lisa and Steve Andrew have hosted for over a decade on Flapjack point. The recent sale of a portion of that property has necessitated our change in venue. Thank you to Steve and Lisa for 10+ great years of picnics!

…National Cleanup Day (September 19): Trash builds up in public spaces faster than most people notice—wrappers along sidewalks, bottles near trails, cans left behind in parks. National Cleanup Day exists to confront that everyday problem in a direct, practical way. It brings people together to clear outdoor areas so they can be enjoyed again, and the impact shows quickly when many hands pitch in. What begins as a simple cleanup often leads to something larger: people start paying attention to how waste affects land, water, and wildlife, and small actions turn into lasting habits. The day’s purpose isn’t only to remove litter but to spark awareness, encourage responsibility, and make caring for shared spaces feel like a natural part of community life.

Happenings at StC

Important Announcements & News…

Church Picnic: Sunday, September 20, 12:30 at Kirsop’s Landing, 8039 Hargis St NW (not far from the church). Hamburgers, hot dogs, and drinks provided. Bring potluck dishes to share: salads, sides, chips, fruit, veggies, desserts. We’ll have folding chairs but if bring your comfy camping chair if you want to lounge!

Oct. 1st – Blessing of Animals (Companion Cove and Carlyon Beach)
