…Trivia: Billy Hippopotamus (William Johnson Hippopotamus) was a pygmy hippo given to U.S. President Calvin Coolidge in 1927 by none other than tire titan Harvey Firestone. Billy was housed in the National Zoo in Washington, D.C., and is the common ancestor of nearly all pygmy hippos in American zoos.

Summer Camp Scholarship Fundraiser: The Youth Ministry of St. Christopher’s Community Church is requesting your assistance in raising funds to provide scholarships to St. Christopher’s youth who would like to participate in summer camps promoted by the Synod or the Diocese and other faith-based camps that have Christian formation as a core value. Donations in any amount are greatly appreciated and can be made by clicking this link. Donations can also be made via check or via your existing PushPay Account using this link.

Bakers Needed: Group pie-making dates are set. No experience is needed. If you can’t make these dates, read on for more ways to help.

Monday, 7/25 starting at 6 pm
Saturday, 7/30 starting at 8 am
Saturday, 8/6 starting at 8 am

We will be spending a few hours baking at each session so feel free to come after the start time. The more helpers we have the faster we go and the more pies we can make. It is an assembly line format, so all skill levels and ages are welcome.

If you can’t make those sessions but want to help, we have other needs:

Bagging and freezing pies the day after baking (or in the evening for morning bakes)
Managing the ovens and removing pies to cool after kids bake during the 10:30 am church service (dates to be determined in coordination with helpers)
Donating fresh or frozen berries or other fruit
Preparing pie dough in advance of group sessions
Making pies at home!
