…January Trivia: January is the only month that has the same sign for both the Sun and the Moon. This is why people born during this time of year are called “lunatics” or “lunatians.”


…Annual Meeting: Our all-congregation annual meeting will be held on January 28th, immediately after the 10:30 service.


…National Thesaurus Day:  On January 18th, National Thesaurus Day, honors Peter Mark Roget, the author of Roget’s Thesaurus, who was born on this day in 1779.


In 1840, Roget retired from a successful career in medicine and spent the rest of his life working on Roget’s Thesaurus of English Words and Phrases. The work was the result of decades of collecting lists of words and categorizing them, much like a scientist would collect specimens. In Roget’s case, he collected words. He first published his thesaurus in 1852. And it was more than a book of synonyms – it was a complete categorization and organization of each word by meaning.


Since then, poets and writers have used the thesaurus to help make their writing come to life. However, the thesaurus also has its detractors. Some say the thesaurus weakens language and destroys it.


Whether you are looking for a more accurate word or trying to improve your writing, the thesaurus can be your best friend. Expanding your vocabulary increases both written and spoken communication skills, creative writing abilities, and can be helpful in advancing your career.

Happenings at StC


Important Announcements & News…


2024 Pledge of Giving:  Thank you to all who have made their 2024 Pledge of Giving.  If you haven’t made your 2024 pledge yet, it’s not to send it in. You can complete your 2024 Pledge Card by filling out a blue pledge card found near the bulletins at church or electronically in CCB by clicking here.  Then set up your online giving by clicking here. This is a two-step process. If you need help, contact Fr. James, Tucker, or Jodi.


Hot Meals Outreach: Join St. Christopher’s in providing hot meal outreach at Community Lifeline of Mason County a non-profit human services organization providing food, 24-hour shelter, and other assistance for those in need.


We serve dinner on the 4th Wednesday of the month with the next opportunity to serve being January 24th.


    

  • 3:45 pm to 5 pm – cook and set up
    • 

  • 5 pm – 6 pm – Serving
    • 

  • 6 pm – 7 pm – Cleanup
    •
