Evening prayer and book study – Tuesdays during Lent

Lent is not a spectator sport.
It’s a set-apart time in the church year: forty days for prayer, reflection, and re-centering. We set apart this time to weed through the gardens of our lives and prune things back, so that life can truly flourish in each of us.
We tend to “do” Lent on our own–giving something up, spending extra time in prayer, taking a quiet walk for reflection–and while those solo activities are certainly important, it’s good to support one another in the work of this season, too. This year at St. Christopher’s, we’re gathering for weekly evening prayer and conversation around a book–I hope you’ll join us!
We begin with Holden Evening Prayer, a beautiful musical setting of evening prayer. If you enjoy singing, come and sing along, and if you prefer to simply sit quietly and listen, that’s just fine, too.
Following evening prayer, we’ll transition into conversation around the book Simplifying the Soul: Lenten Practices to Renew Your Spirit, by Paula Huston. Here’s a description from the book jacket:
Award-winning author and Benedictine oblate Paula Huston invites readers to declutter their minds, hearts, relationships, and souls in a book of daily Lenten practices woven from the gospels, the Desert Fathers and Mothers, and the author’s own wealth of experience.
So again, here’s the schedule:
Tuesdays during Lent (Feb 19 through March 26)
- Evening prayer: 7pm
- Book study: 7:30pm
All are welcome. That means you.
