Enough: Join the Conversation this October
How much is enough?
How much stuff do we need? How much do we need to save for the future? And how much should we give away? These are difficult questions that touch all of our lives.
This month at St. Christopher’s, we’re going to be talking in a straightforward way about our relationship to money and possessions and how it relates to our calling as people of faith.
To help with the conversation, we’re going to be using a wonderful, short book called Enough: Discovering Joy Through Simplicity and Generosity. I think that title says so much. Money tends to bring up all kinds of negative emotions for us–worries, anxieties, and discontentment–when really, we’re meant to live with joy and generosity.
But how do we get to joy and generosity? It’s no easy question, but we’re better off facing it together. Copies of Enough are available free of charge through the church office. Pick one up on a Sunday morning, or stop by during office hours during the week.
Read along, and join in the conversation.
There will be opportunities for small-group conversation both before and after worship each week during the study:
- Group 1 meets on Sundays from 9am to 10am
- Group 2 meets on Sundays 11:45am to 12:30pm
Childcare is available during the Group 1 meeting time. Join the conversation at any point. Here’s the schedule of readings and conversation topics:
- October 13: Chapter 1 – “When Dreams Become Nightmares”
- October 20: Chapter 2 – “Wisdom and Finance”
- October 27: Chapter 3 – “Cultivating Contentment”
- November 3: Chapter 4 – “Defined by Generosity”
I hope you’ll join us for worship and for conversation this month as we search together for a deeper meaning of that beautiful word, “enough.”
Peace,
Andy
