COVID-19 and St. Christopher’s

Updated March 17, 2020

Dear Friends,

The situation surrounding COVID-19 pandemic continues to develop. As a result, St. Christopher’s facilities are closed to all in-person group meetings and group worship through at least March 22nd. This is in compliance with the closures of all Diocese of Olympia congregations. Below you will find more info from the Diocese of Olympia and the Southwestern WA Synod.

This does not mean St. Christopher’s is closed… We are simply doing ministry in different ways. There are many ways we can remain worshiping, in fellowship, and serving together. Much of this will occur by phone, text message, email, video conference, and online.

UPDATE: St. Christopher’s will be broadcasting worship on Facebook (often with ‘Watch Parties’) and we are using Zoom for meetings. Get the Zoom app here.

Sunday Services go online [UPDATED]… Sunday services will be online at our facebook page and posted to our website. You will be able to watch them yourself at anytime or join us for a more ‘live’ experience as we watch them together in a ‘Watch Party’ (This is a Facebook innovation that allows a group of people to watch the same video simultaneously and interact with each other using a typed chat box and/or emoji reactions.) Watch Parties will be hosted at the same times as our normal service times, namely 8am and 10:30am. Please share this opportunity with friends and loved ones.

Text Message Announcements from St. Chris… You can stay in touch with the latest developments from St. Christopher’s by subscribing to our text message service.

Text COVID19
to the phone number
360-810-3292

We will send you a text message with a link to any news. Approximately one text a day.

UPDATE: In addition you can text other options to this number such as GIVE for online giving and LECTIONARY or READINGS for a calendar of our Sunday Scripture readings.

Meetings and Bible Studies to continue online [UPDATED]… Most meetings and Bible Studies are not canceled. We have moved them online to a video conferencing format online via a program/app called Zoom. You can download Zoom here. Zoom works on phones and computers. In addition you can call in using your phone (no video) in case you would like a simpler, less techy, option. If you need help joining or setting up a meeting, please contact Fr. James.

Foodbank continues by reservation… Our ministry as a sattelite location of the Thurston County Foodbank. Make your reservation to Lindy Vincent or you can call our office at 360-866-2111. Leave a message with your name, phone number, and number of people in your household. For more info: https://thurstoncountyfoodbank.org/satellite-locations/

Labyrinth and Stations of the Cross are open… Our outdoor Labyringh and outdoor Stations of the Cross remain open for self-guided worship and devotion.

Church Workday and Cleanup… If you are stuck at home or experiencing cabin fever this may be an ideal time to help us deep clean the church and spruce up the grounds. We will want to have this happen so that people show up and different times and we have no groups congregating. Stay tuned for announcements and signup.

Stay well, keep engaged, take Sabbaths from the media, pray often, and let us know if we can help you with anything. Peace be with you!
