Bishop’s News – Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza
An appeal from the American Friends of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem
Help for the Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza
August 16, 2022
Dear Ones,
Members of the Diocesan Committee on Justice and Peace in the Holy Land received news from John Lent, Executive Director of American Friends of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem, about the situation in Gaza and in particular the Ahli Arab Hospital, long supported by AFEDJ, following the recent bombings. John writes:
The Jabaliya Refugee Camp near Ahli Arab Hospital was struck and children were killed there. Ahli Hospital has been treating wounded children and adults from Jabaliya. There was more destruction and killing in Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip, including the Rafah Refugee Camp. As you know, these refugee camps are densely populated and airstrikes into the camps are devastating. The latest count of children killed by the weekend’s violence in Gaza is 16.
I’ve spoken briefly with Suhaila Tarazi, the director of Ahli Hospital. She will provide me a detailed update on the hospital’s needs . . . . Before I receive Suhaila’s report, I can tell you that the hospital is in desperate need of funds for medical supplies, medicines and fuel for its generators.
All donations made to AFEDJ and designated for Gaza will go to the support of the hospital. As Chair of American Friends I am asking those in our diocese as they can to give generously to this great need.
Thank you.
+Greg
