While we continue to navigate the uncertainty and ever-evolving situation of this current health crisis, our weekly diocesan newsletter, Across the Diocese, will remain slightly truncated and be focused on sharing out resources, important information, points of connection between our worshiping communities, and virtual events for the benefit of the entire diocese.

New Youth Ministry Coordinator in the Diocese of Olympia
The Office of the Bishop is pleased to announce that a new staff member is joining us in our work of serving the Diocese of Olympia. Alex Flannagan has just stepped into the role of Youth Ministry Coordinator and will be working with our Faith Formation Team. Please join us in welcoming Alex to the diocese!
Mental Health Awareness Month
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. The Mental Health Task Force supports your efforts to stay mentally healthy everyday and particularly now, during this pandemic. Please visit our webpage below for resources and information.
Stories of Quarantine:
Sabrina Reyes-Peters
Each week during the pandemic, our diocese’s young adults share a glimpse into their quarantine lives. This week, Sabrina Reyes-Peters discusses “Is it ‘Christian’ to have negative emotions? What if you’re not feeling ‘grateful’?” Sabrina is a member of Epiphany Parish, where she serves as a Eucharistic minister and is a member of the St. Gabriel’s Guild, Epiphany’s communications ministry.

VIRTUAL AND ONLINE EVENTS
Online Gatherings for Youth
Mondays Fundays | Mondays, 7:00pm
Wednesday Worship | Wednesdays 7:00pm
The Diocese of Olympia is currently offering weekly online gatherings for teens from around western Washington: “Monday Funday” and “Worship Wednesday.” These are youth-planned and led with support from a great group of adult volunteers. All teens are welcome!
Zoom Campfire on the Eve of Pentecost
May 30, 7:00pm
Join St. Timothy, Chehalis and gather in Zoom around a virtual campfire to celebrate Pentecost.
Launch: Honoring Graduating HS Seniors
June 20, 11:00am
The Diocese of Olympia would like to honor high school seniors from around Western Washington with a special virtual service in their honor, led by Bishop Rickel – including music, a personalized slideshow, and customized reflections, so each senior is lifted up and celebrated at this important life milestone.
FUTURE IN-PERSON EVENTS
The Office of the Bishop is planning for the day when gathering restrictions will be lifted and we will be able to meet in-person. We are promoting the following events in the hope that we will be able to gather at that time. However, there is the possibility that these events will need to be canceled, postponed, or shifted to an online or virtual event.
Island Voyage: 2020 Youth Creation Care Pilgrimage
San Juan Islands | August 2-8 | $480 Registration (Scholarships Available – No Deposit Due Until July 15)
When quarantine and stay-at-home orders are lifted, reconnect with other youth from Across the Diocese for a week-long pilgrimage across the San Juan Islands as we learn to care for God’s creation and grow together as a community.
