Notes from the Bishop’s Council

The BC met on April 13th. 

Reports were received about Holy Week and Easter events and attendance.
Participation and attendance were strong, with
   172 present on Easter Sunday Morning – about 50 more than on Christmas.
   45 people participated in the Online Easter Vigil.
   82 were present for Palm Sunday Services. 

The HVAC system (two furnaces plus a double-head mini-split for the loft) was installed. 
   There is a new issue with water coming into the furnace room through the newly installed system. 
   Our contractor, our project lead, and both Jr Wardens have been working on water abatement and problem solving all week. 
    BIG thanks to Karl Schmidt (project lead) and the Jr. Wardens, and BIG BIG BIG kudos to this young volunteer!
                

BC received a request and discussed the idea of sponsoring groups/organizations in the community. 
BC discussed “Sponsor a Highway” cleanup possibility. 
Received Report that Technology Audit of Church Software resuming now that Holy Week/Easter Sunday completed.

Finance Report. 
Received the Finance Report.
Budget on track. – Deficit spending and surplus in bank accounts continue as discussed at Congregational Annual Meeting in January. No surprise expenditures. 
   Noted: Major projects capital projects – HVAC update, Sidewalk Installation, Playground Upgrade – have been mostly/completely funded by donors. 
   Report Received that majority of funds in Charles Schwab investments have been sold. Funds are awaiting deposit into Diocesan Investment Fund or as directed.

…On April 23, 1985, the Coca-Cola Company introduced “New Coke” in a controversial move to discontinue its original recipe. The public backlash was so severe that the original Coca-Cola recipe was reinstated as “Coca-Cola Classic” within three months.

…”Creation Care” is a Christian term for Environmentalism. When we say Creation Care, we call attention to our belief that God made all things, called them good, and asked us to be good stewards of the good things that were made. In the Garden of Eden, when it says God gave humans “dominion” over the earth, the word “dominion” comes from the Latin Dominos meaning God. God entrusted Creation into human care not so that we might “Lord it over” creation, but so that we might tend, nurture, and treat it just as its Creator would. 

…Earth Day (April 22): Earth Day is a reminder that the planet we depend on is under real pressure, from polluted air and water to disappearing ecosystems and increasingly extreme weather. First organized in 1970 after a major oil spill drew national attention, Earth Day was created to push environmental protection into public awareness and everyday life. Over the decades, it has grown into a global event involving millions of people who use the day to highlight the connection between a healthy environment and a healthy society. This year’s theme, “Our Power, Our Planet,” focuses on the idea that meaningful change does not come only from large institutions but also from the choices and actions of ordinary people. Earth Day encourages everyone to notice the impact of daily habits, to understand how environmental issues shape communities, and to take small, practical steps that contribute to a more sustainable future.
