…Trivia: Halloween dates back more than 2,000 years. It’s even older than Christianity itself. It all started as a pre-Christian Celtic festival called Samhain, which means “summer’s end.” Held at the beginning of November, the feast recognized the last day of the fall harvest and spirits crossing over, since they believed the veil between the living and spirit world grew thinnest at that time. People in Ireland, the United Kingdom, and Northern France used to ward off ghosts by lighting sacrificial bonfires, and – you guessed it – wearing costumes to trick the spirits, according to History.com.




…Daylight Saving Time Ends: Don’t forget to set your clocks back on Saturday, November 4th. Daylight Saving Time ends at 2:00 am on November 5th. You don’t want to be late for Sunday services.


… Bulletin Blooper: Remember when bulletins were typed on a typewriter and there were lots of typos… Here’s one from yesteryear: “Scouts are saving aluminum cans, bottles, and other items to be recycled.  Proceeds will be used to cripple children.”


…All Souls Day: This is the commemoration of all those who have died to the grace and provision of God. It is especially meaningful since we have just celebrated the triumph of God’s grace in the saints the day before. The three days known as Reformation Day, Halloween/All Saints Day, and All Souls Day is called “Allhallowtide.”

Urge Congress to Act on Solitary Confinement Dear Reader, In 2018, General Convention formally condemned solitary confinement for all those who are incarcerated or in detention. Since that time, Episcopal Public Policy Network members have advocated for a federal ban on solitary confinement, working in partnership with the National Religious Campaign Against Torture, as well as addressing the issue on a state-by-state level. A recent report by Solitary Watch and Unlock the Box Campaign estimates that 122,000 people are held in solitary confinement in U.S. prisons and jails at any point in time. The Four Vision Quests of Jesus Book Discussion – It’s begun! Join us at 9am on Sundays at StC or at Urraco Coffee Co. Tuesdays at 6:15am or Wednesdays at 1:30pm to discuss this thought provoking book!


Underwear Drive! Donate new adult-sized underwear – pants/panties, socks, etc. Drop them in the collection box in the narthex (entryway). We will deliver to Olympia’s Union Gospel Mission. Questions? Marcia Rugg.


Cold Clothing Drive. Lindy Vincent is collecting new or gently used coats, hats, gloves, etc. Please bring your donation to the church. Lindy Vincent, our Outreach Coordinator, is in charge of distribution in our local community.


Thanksgiving Potluck: The Thanksgiving Potluck will be held on Sunday, November 12, 2023. This year we will be holding the potluck ataSt. Christopher’s following the 10:30 am service.
