Introducing children to the Christian faith and helping them find a home in the great story of God’s love for the world is a true blessing. St. Christopher’s seeks to be a part of this process for families through our children’s ministry. It is our aim to help each child find a place in the church and experience the love of God as they grow.
Children’s Christian education and worship (Sept – May)
Our children’s Christian education and worship program is for children age 3 (preschool) through age 11 (fifth grade) and is held on Sunday mornings from September through May. Please bring your children 5-10 minutes before the start of the 10:30 worship service.
All children are personally greeted and welcomed into the children’s ministry space downstairs. The younger children hear a Bible story using the Godly Play curriculum; the older children use materials from Godly Play as well as Weaving God’s Promises and learn to find the Bible stories on their own.
After the story, the teachers strive to help the children hear and respond to God’s voice with open-ended art and play options as well as directed activities. We end our time downstairs with a goodbye and blessing with each child. Some Sundays we devote our time to prayer and feasting instead of a story. The children then join the rest of the congregation upstairs for Communion.
Nursery care is available for infants and toddlers every Sunday morning throughout the year.
Children in worship
Additionally, children are always welcome to join their parents in worship. Participating in worship from an early age is one of the best ways for children to learn the faith, and we welcome their activity and movement. Ask a greeter for a bag with crayons and paper if your child would like to draw during the service.
