The Rev. James L. Thibodeaux, Pastor and Priest
Fr. James came to St. Christopher’s in 2014. He is a native of Sonoma County, California, and grew up attending several Evangelical christian churches. In 2002 he was confirmed in the Episcopal Church. In 2006 Fr. James graduated from the Lutheran Theological Seminary (ELCA) at Philadelphia with a Master of Divinity and from General Theological Seminary (Episcopal) in 2007 with a Master of Sacred Theology in Anglican Studies. He has been serving as a priest in the Diocese of Olympia since 2008.
To St. Christopher’s, Fr. James brings a passion for engaging and beautiful worship; a love of Holy Scripture, history, and theology; and the Spirit’s ministry emphasizing God’s love and grace through Christ Jesus. He lives in the Steamboat Community with his wife Annaka and their two children.
Barb Weza, Deaconal Intern
Barb Weza is currently serving out a one year internship at St. Christopher’s. Barb is a member of St. David of Wales Episcopal Church in Shelton and a Postulent (i.e. late-middle part) in the discernment process to become a Deacon. Barb is a social worker by trade. She brings a quiet and deep wisdom, a readiness to serve, and a love of people to the life and ministry of St. Christopher’s.
Br. Frank Lawler, Office Manager
Br. Frank is a member of the Order of St. Francis, a Franciscan Order within the Episcopal Church. He comes to us having served most recently as a chiropractor at Madigan and a retired Major in the Marine Corps. Frank has held many positions in operations during his military service. He lives in Tacoma and has two sons and four grandchildren.
Jeff Sprengel, Music Director
Jeff Sprengel has been serving as Music Director at St. Christopher’s since 1987. He is a native of Olympia and leads weekly worship from the organ and piano, directs the church’s choir, coordinates guest musicians, assists in planning liturgies, and contributes to the publishing of our bulletins.Jeff has a green thumb and knows quite a bit about fruit trees and various plants. In addition, he’s been known to pull out an accordion from time to time!
The Bishop’s Council, our governing board
The Bishop’s Council works with the pastor/priest and other church staff to accomplish the shared mission and ministry of the congregation. The Council proposes the budget, monitors finances, establishes policy, and removes barriers to growth and development of other ministries of the congregation. Terms of service are three years and involve a commitment to the mission of the congregation, to faithfully attending monthly meetings, and to being an active member of the community in good standing. Official members of St. Christopher’s members are eligible to serve.
